Dear Jeff and the excellent crew of Diamond Amplification,
Have you considered doing a bass amp? All-valve bass amps are making a comeback, as Traynor, Laney, Ashdown, Orange, and Fender join the ranks of the famed Ampeg SVT. The only problem is-- have you heard the overdrive on those things? It comes across as an upper-midrangey snarl (or "fart" in the worst-case scenarios) that works well in the guitar register, but doesn't seem to translate well in the realm of bass. I happen to be one of many bass players who would love a valve amp whose overdrive characteristics help the bass retain a percussive kick and definition in the low end. While I realize there is only so much you can do to retain the sound of a "natural" breakup, given the excellent tones that come from your guitar amps, I believe you are up to the task. |

Bugera's new 300 watt all tube bass head looks pretty sweet. -------------------- Check out the DBZ Unofficial FAQ at http://dbzguitars.com/forum/index.php?show...&#entry3573

Bugera's new 300 watt all tube bass head looks pretty sweet. Yeah, I've been taking a look at it. It's not available in the US just yet, because it still has to get FCC certification (our tax dollars at work *cringe*). Judging from the tube specs, I'm guessing they copied the contemporary Ampeg SVT Classic signal path-- not a bad thing, but it doesn't address any of the issues, either. |
