My Grandfather once said when it's smoking it's cooking when it's black it's done... I know he was talking about venison but I was just playing my amp and got a real loud pop and a buzz like my guitar cable come unplugged (which didn't happen) and now my room smells like a marshall that has cooked it's self to death (which may have happened). Is it possible that i just blew a tube or does it seem like more than that may have went wrong? When it cools down I will look the tubes over, if a tube did blow would that have caused my amp to fry it's self?

Hate to say it dude but you may have burnt this one out. I had the exact same thing happen in a soundcheck before a show (and unfortunately it wasn't a dream). I would get that thing to a qualified repair man asap. Sounds to me like it would be more than a tube if it's making 'the smell'...

Yeah tubes are fine fuse in the labled "HI FUSE" is burnt out but that wouldn't be the problem correct? Fuses blow to prevent a bigger problem or else what would be the point? It's under a five year warrantee from the manufacturer and i have had it less than a year.

Just want to throw out the mandatory safety advice. If you are not well versed in electronics, dont poke around in there. Even when off there are high votages that could Kill you.

Now that thats out of the way, are you planning on opening it up and checking to see if any of the caps are fried? It could be that. Do not just replace the fuse and power back on.

I know enough to check the fuses and what a tube that looks "hot platted" as a friend of mine called it looks like other than that I know nothing, just checked out the tubes and fuses. So I guess I'm in for a one and a half hour trip to the nearest Marshall Service center. Some one on this forum lives in the boonies. rolleyes.gif

sucks man. Maybe get a book on tube amp construction and repair so you have something to do while they fix it?

Your fuses might have saved you but I would definitely take it into the repair center if it's under warranty. Trying to fix it your self would probably void your warranty.

We had a comparable problem with our TV.

There were these sparkles coming out of the back, along with a bit of smoke (note, this tv is MY age, and I'm turning 19 next week, so...), so I've shut it down asap.

And ever since, (this is gonna be a bit hard to explain), the images on the tv go wider, they even exceed the frame, so while you would have this:

[ ] being the TV frame
(.Y.) being the images

Normally you have this:

[(.Y.)]

But we have this:

[.Y.]

But it still works. Beat that new generation technology!

Now, back on topic, I'm gonna say listen to Slanderous, if you still have warranty, I'd take it to the repair center. If not, I'd ask if somebody could give you a price for howmuch it would cost to repair the amp.
But yeah, as for our TV, it would cost about €130 to fix it, but it's not worth it, 'cause of the age. But maybe your Marshall is worth the cost. happy.gif

Just got off the phone with the people there they said bring it in as what ever's wrong may be covered under warantee. Marshall's website said my warantee is good still, but who's to know exactly what all that covers. Just sucks I may possibly be with out my amp for a while, I had to wait 2 months to get it. When I ordered Marshall was having trouble keeping them in stock.

Anyhow sucks that it was killed by my ML. WTF!?!?! I guess it just coulldn't handle playing second fiddle to the Venom... oh and my Les Paul... well the Explorer too... okay I guess it didn't like playing last fiddle. Hell, none of the other guitars blew that bastard up... just a sad day when equipment can't get along.

I need a siren and flasking lights for my car when I take my amp in... Oh and the word "AMP-ULANCE" painted backwards across the front bumper.

On the bright side Renz Seems to have managed to work a pair of female chest appendages into this conversation. lmfao thumbsup.gif

Edit : "female chest appendages"?!?! Not at all what I typed.

Well I took it to the guys they said they would have to send it off because they couldn't figure out what could be the problem frrom my description. They said they have never heard of an amp blowing a fuse and staying on or an amp blowing the fuse but the tubes remain glowing either. I stopped at the local shop here where I live and they were left scratching their heads too. It worries me a biteven though the store claims its still under warantee that there will just be random stuff happen like this, or that this amp might end up like the stephen king book about the haunted car that kills everybody.

Weird. My ML blew my amp in the above story I told. Must be the extra 'point' or something. Jk

Don't worry too much man. Let them send it off and get it checked over by a qualified Marshall amp doctor. I'm sure it'll be fine.

I guess some words get "censored" tongue.gif

Well, back on topic, be glad it's still under warranty!
They must fix it, and to bring up another one of my "stories":
Long, long ago (about <2 years)...
I've let my laptop fall on the ground, resulting into a crack above the keyboard (no screendamage, oof!).
And a couple of months later, something happened to my screen, it turned all pink and then it gave no reaction.
I've sent it over to the repaircenter and they fixed the screen ànd the crack, I didn't have to pay for my clumsiness biggrin.gif

So if I can have thàt kinda luck, you should be able to get it as well with your amp!
Askrogth
Ouch, any updates on whats happening with the amp?, @ Renz, Nice work tongue.gif

3 weeks is a normal waiting time, had to wait 5 weeks when I handed my laptop over for the second time... 2,5 weeks before I had a mail saying the laptop left the store where I delivered it and arrived the repairdepot <_<
