Help! Just received my EHX Big Muff Pi from a good friend and just wondering, Wah first or Distortion first???

Hey really that is up to you... try both ways and see what you prefer.
That being said though... most use the wah first in the chain. Though there is nothing wrong with using the wah after the distortion. It makes for a different sound. Some like the sound... some don't. Experiment and see what ya get.

+1- you might like the sound of the wah after the distortion, but in essence, the wah is going to kill alot of tone if used after the distortion.

If you mess around enough you can get a really unique sound if you put the distortion first...which reminds me I need to get a new cable to hook my wah back up. Never let a friend borrow your cables.

What kind of wah are you runnin?

Pedal placement has as much to do with what sounds you want as it does the design of each of your pedals - if they have true bypass or if they are buffered. A great article to read about pedal placement is in

i just recently switched to using the wah after my overdrive. i think it sort of has a better how would you say...tone shift i guess.

I've always been a wah-first guy, but some old fuzzes sound weak after the wah.... i've got a buffered wah coming that should help. in the meantime, whenever I "old fuzz", i do no wah....
