As much as I hate to sound like some sort of guitar snob I really think this kid has a good start and is on his way to play some awesome stuff but really his playing isnt in time and he has difficulty bending at times etc. Small things that come with experience. I believe that working musicians need the endorsements morei n general. What does a 12 year old kid really need the promotion for?
Renz
He plays good, but as stated above, DBZ won't be endorsing.
If you really like DBZ, buy them yourself thumbsup.gif

Wasn't there a post here from another person looking for 'endorsements' - It just seems like a
"Give me a free guitar" racket to me; no offence intended, but you've gotta pay for your instruments, at least until you get coverage and a record deal and even then, you've gotta be huge before you get the stuff for free sorry for being cynical about it - in the future you'll get your endorsements thumbsup.gif

I wouldnt be so sure on the whole "DBZ isnt endorsing" even if he did say he wasnt, you have to bare in mind the company has just started who knows what will happen when everybody realises how badass DBZ guitars are. But anyway, there is no point in a 13 year old getting endorsements, I cant view the videos from college because youtube just doesnt work for some reason, but regardless I dont need to see the videos. Even if he was a child prodigy, giving the child sponsorships is only going to force feed something down him/her. They might be ace at music but whos to say they dont want to do something else? A classic example is Michael Jackson, he had performing rammed down him from a very early age and didnt get that childhood like the majority of kids get. Now when my EP is out I will be applying for endorsements with DiMarzio etc, now im 17 and I still think I am way to young to be considering this.
Just my opinion baring in mind.

the way i see endorsments is if people like you, and your music youll get something, anyone without an EP is stuffed ... because all theyre going by is WOM, and a video shot with a Video recording mic, i see why people want endorsments, but im fine paying for my equiptment until im worthy of them,a 13 year old kid still needs to get through school ect and studying , at the age of 13 i was having fun playing guitar to be like my heroes, granted my guitar influance has changed but i still play because i enjoy it, not so i can get sponser outa some big or small company, if i was trying to do that i'd go toa smaller company than these big ones (dean, jackson,DBZ(even tho its new its DEAN Z) ) and even with endorsments at the begining you dont get ''free stuff'', maybe just a tee-shirt or something, and they will put you under artist on their website, then after if your getting bigger they will start to play your music on their site (providing they have music on their website) ,then so on.

im sure bands like Trivium or Bullet didnt post up a video of one of them playing a solo or a song and posted on the Dean/Jackson/peavey website's forum and went ''ENDORSE, ENDORSE,ENDORSE MEEEE'' ... no they had to work for it , and only recently they got the endorsments, till then they have been paying out of their pockets, and both bands sell-out shows.

Disclamer: here im just speaking general , DG just triggered the idea and this post is in no way aimed at him

Just want to go back to the point where you mensioned not getting free stuff with endorsements. The majority of endorsement deals have no free stuff in general anyway, probably excluding merch, but rather even if your a big band your not guaranteed free guitars whenever you want, not even Metallica could go to ESP and say give me free guitars, there is always a catch. And not all endorsements will put you on the website. The very minimum you get is discounts on gear, they could be small or big but to begin with you take what you can. And yes, Trivium even from the early stages would have been going for endorsements. They probably did the same as what I am aiming to do now, and thats try and gain an endorsement deal with string or pick companies to begin with to get there name out, as soon as my EP is done I am going to get my photography done and what not and get some live footage sorted and apply to elixir strings for a start and possibly some pick company and stuff. If I succeed with that then I will go and apply for DiMarzio which would be a huge achievement but its not easy. You cant just ask for endorsements and expect to give them which is what pisses me off when threads like this begin when there are people really working there butts off for achieving goals in music.

Well, closest I've gotten is a free T-shirt and a bucket of plectrums from Adam Black guitars - Ya-hey, if I go on at this rate it'll only be <counts fingers> 900 years before I get the free axe!

Seriously though, it does involve a helluva lot of work... DemiGod's EP for example, on one track I rendered 28 different pre-drafts, 14 post drafts and a final before we found a nice drum sound (and it was a nice drum sound) so it takes a whole lot more than youtube to get out there

Only 900 years? Lucky you!
It'll take me at least 5000 years to get a free... erm... used plectrum!

But yeah, making a track sucks a**... I'm fooling around with Reaper, and it's already so hard, but hey, I know SOMEBODY will have the good heart to post a vid of a how-to Reaper and EzDrum...
Question is... Who? ninja.gif *stares at Steve*

Thank you and yes you have a good point. I just don't think anyone should get endorsements at an age like that (unless the person is already pro, which is unlikely). and the the MJ thing posted earlier is true. He is good, and probably could get endorsed in a few years. Now is not a good time though.

And he seems to have a fairly decent axe already anyways.

Yeah that kid with a dean does look familiar alright

Also, I find it strange that the poster didn't actually mention DBZ guitars (Or Dean Z) at all in his initial post - I think it might be worthwhile to look around other forums to see if it's a copied and pasted message because something about the generic-ness of the stuff written, combined with the fact that youtube says that the guitarist is 15 (but that's no big thing, it says i'm 23) makes me feel a little bit like this is a gimmick

I guess we could always ask 'Ryan of Rock n Roll photography' about it as well thumbsup.gif

If he's so good, I bet mom or dad can buy him that Walnut Bolero he dreams of...
OR
Look at me, I payed for all my guitarstuff ('cept my stand, it was a gift from my mother)
OR
Keep on playing that Dean...
AND
I'm not trying to sound bitchy... But you know I'm right.
AND
If he's so good, why doesn't he perform on-stage, earn the moniez, gets drunk and buys the guitar?
That's how I would do it...

Just watched the video, and his age is no longer an issue anymore. Whether he was 13 or 33 or 53, it makes no difference, he hasnt got what companies are looking for, they aint going to endorse a kid for being 13, thats just not going to help a company. I personally dont think he is that brilliant, he hasnt got something that makes him stand out, what he has done is 3 videos of covers which havent really gotten alot of attention so that makes me think that the fact that Rock n Roll photography recommended him, is a load of horse crap.
Incin.Plague
Notice: Dean Z hasn't replied to this. He either is sick of all the requests for endorsements or he knows it's someone trying to hound off a new guitar. For this Dean, I would give them a string off a guitar. Or one of those plastic blow-up figurines of a DBZ. No matter how sugar-coated these people sound, almost always they're looking for a free guitar. Sorry for sounding like an a**hole, but this is a load of horse crap.

Interesting. I actually just emailed Dean this morning about an endorsement deal. I'm pretty sure he does endorsement deals. It wouldn't make much sense for a new company to not put their products in the hands of people that will expose those products to many potential buyers. I see that dude from Dope is playing a BOP.

Yes, but somewhere in here you will find a thread much like this of a dude asking for a free guitar for his 10 year old son to play for other shows and Dean said he isn't endorsing. Just because Virus plays the BOP doesn't mean he needs endorsement. He's got endorsements up the a** from Gibson and Dean Guitars no doubt. And Diamond Amps (I think)

What's with all the little kids trying to get endorsement deals?

As for Virus, if he's got so many endorsements already through Gibson and Dean, why would be buy a DBZ? I'd be surprised if he paid for that BOP, especially considering DBZ is using promotional videos of him playing the guitar and talking/promoting the guitar. But I could be wrong.
Poncho
The only 'endorsement' I ever got was with BOSS/ROLAND and all I got out of it was a GT8 pedal and an RC50 looper which quite frankly is complex and didn't do it's job very well and henceforth is gathering dust.

Guys. Just venturing my 2c here but you should also factor in selling your records with an endorsement. If you can't go to a company with an established fanbase, an album with decent distribution and radio airplay (ok, radio can be optional pending on your genre) then you should go back to the drawing board.

As per DG saying DBZ may/may not be serious about endorsing - believe it. He's serious. You're witnessing (and are a part of) a guitar revolution. Dean never had big names in the early days apart from the ones he met and ended up building guitars for (read : not free ones). Yeah, they might eventually after it's expanded to a ridiculous point, but we have a good 5 or so celebutard-free years by my bet so we should just buy our own damn guitars and enjoy it I say.

I bought mine and I'm gonna buy me some more DBZs too!!!!!

Edit : I am not Virus from Dope. thanks.gif

And I can say honestly that at every gig now I am PROUDLY endorsing and supporting DBZ guitars. I don't need a magazine ad to make me feel any better about it and to be honest, if Dean turned around and started giving me freebs I'd feel like a freeloader anyway considering I'm quite happy to pay. Even USA prices. :)

Also on this note, just having an endorsement doesn't mean you can get free guitars from everybody. I'm 100% sure people with endorsements will buy other brands for their collection in their private time.

Let's not forget 2 USA DBZ's that I know of that were given to Trivium, the red flametop BOP and the Venom Thoracic. And yes, Virus has 2 himself, the USA BOP Sepulchura(sp ?) and the black Cavallo.

True story told to me by Dean Z:

One day back in the early 80's he gets a note to call some young guy named Randy Rhoads out in LA who wanted him to build a Custom V. Dean said he blew the phonecall off because he had never heard of a young guy named Randy Rhoads. Just think what could have happened with the original Dean Guitars if Dean Z. had returned that phone call ???

I'm pretty sure the "I'm not doing endorsements" thing is just his default response to anyone that he doesn't want to deal with. Because the fact is, endorsement deals are a huge means of promoting your products. Thousands of kids want to play the same guitar as their favorite band. I'm sure behind the scenes deals are in the works, and once there is a decent number of endorsements going, there will be a new section on the DBZ web site and you'll see all these mainstream metal guitarists in upcoming guitar magazine ads.

Only thing I don't like are signature series guitars. That's just screaming buy me kid, and you'll play just like me. Not to mention any self respecting musician isn't going to want to play an instrument with someone elses name or artwork all over it - sorta hinders having your own identity.

I understand where your coming from but DBZ guitars doesn't really seem to be going for a mass market style deal. For example they are only shipping to smaller shops and no large chains. Also Dean Z made this comment about not doing any endorsements a few times only once it being to someone asking for an endorsement.

Well DBZ is still a very new company yet, so of course they aren't mass market style yet, and of course they aren't in larger chain stores - that all takes time and a lot of promotion to make happen. Only time will tell. But I highly doubt those 4 USA guitars that went out to Trivium and Dope where purchased, especially when Dope already has an endorsement with Diamond amps, DBZ's partner company.

If you can play a bit guitar, don't have money and want to show your 500000$ guitar off, you'll beg for endorsements...
They also get extra "fans" due to the promotion of them on the endorser's site (Deanguitars has it, that's how I got to know a lot of bands!)

Yes, I know why people want endorsements. I have one myself. But I don't see why companies would give little kids endorsement deals when they aren't touring and putting out albums. I guess in this internet era, a YouTube fanbase is all it takes.

For those that insist that DBZ doesn't do endorsement deals, I was just contacted today by their artist relations group. I'm supposed to give them a call tomorrow to discuss a possible deal (hopefully).

I'm not just looking for a free guitar though (pretty sure that wouldn't happen anyways - most likely a discount at best). But I look at endorsement deals as just one more helpful tool to promote my band. And I honestly like what I'm seeing with DBZ, and I want to be able to help promote them in the underground death metal scene. DBZ is a newer company, and I'm sure they could use all the support they can get to help get their name out there. I'd like to be a part of that. I'll let you all know if anything comes of this.

I'll believe it when I see it. Being contacted by the artist relations team is fantastic but it's not a deal. And I still don't think they'll be doing deals. Discounts for sure tho. Best of luck with it all.
